Our Track Record

Having won the Uquo Marginal Field in what was widely hailed as one of the most competitive and transparent oil field licensing rounds in Nigeria, Frontier Oil approached its development in a professional manner that points a clear path to sustainable growth and appreciable returns for all stakeholders. Activities carried out on the Uquo Marginal Field include:

  • Acquired, processed and interpreted 233 sq. km 3-D seismic studies covering entire license area in 2006/2007, to better understand license area geology and further de-risk development plans on the Uquo Marginal Field;
    • Frontier Oil was the one of first indigenous operator from the class of 2003 Marginal Field awardees to conduct a 3-D seismic campaign on its field.
    • Seismic campaign was conducted during a very turbulent period in the Niger Delta crisis without any HSE or Security incident.
    • Campaign identified 9 new prospects & increased gas prospects significantly.
  • Carried out full Environmental Impact Assessment (“EIA”) process and obtained approvals from relevant authorities and implemented the Environmental Management Plan (“EMP”) in accordance with good industry norms and regulatory requirements.
  • Constructed 8 kilometers of new community and access roads;
  • Drilled 2 new wells (Wells 5 & 6 (a side track)) and discovered crude oil in Well 5 & natural gas in Well 6 in 2008;
  • Carried out extensive community engagement in partnership with Pro-Natura International (Nigeria) leading to the formation of two Community Development Foundations, through which we have successfully engaged our host communities and established harmonious relationships
  • Acquired 42 hectare site locations for the Central Processing Facility (CPF) as well as a 4 hectare location for a tank farm for crude oil export operations.
  • In 2010, the Uquo-3 and Uquo-2 wells re-entered and tested and confirmed positive reservoir characteristics with high permeability.
    • The Uquo-3 re-entry also confirmed the presence of an oil sand that was tested and flowed at average of 950bopd and a peek of 3,000 bopd
    • The Uquo-3 well has been completed as an oil production well and is currently scheduled to commene production in Q2 2014.
    • The Uquo- 2 well has been completed as a natural gas production well and has already commenced commercial production.
  • In 2013, the Uquo-4 well was re-entered and completed as a natural gas production well. This well also has commenced commercial production.
  • In 2013 also , the Uquo-7 well and the Uquo-8 well were drilled as brand new wells . They will both be completed as natural gas production wells in Q3 2014.
  • Constructed more than 30km of various flow lines and pipelines to deliver and evacuate well fluids to and from the CPF
  • In conjunction with our joint venture partners, constructed and commissioned a 200mmscf/d gas plant for processing non-associated gas, associated gas and crude oil from the Uquo Marginal Field:
    • Train 1 was commissioned in 2012 and has the capacity to process 100mmscf/d;
    • Train 2 was commissioned in April 2014 and also has the capacity to process up to 100mmscf/d;
    • The Plant also has processing capacity for up to 2,000 barrels per day of crude oil and condensate;
  • Executed a Gas Sales & Purchase Agreement to deliver natural gas to the Ibom Power Plant in Akwa Ibom State; and a second Gas Sales & Purchase Agreement to deliver natural gas to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company owned Calabar Power Plant in Cross River State.
  • Achieved First test production of processed natural gas from the Ekid Gas plant in December 2012.
  • Mobilized NRG rig 201 for a 5 well drilling, completions and testing campaign in July 2014 to provide sufficient well capacity to meet contractual gas obligations and prove up additional reserves in the field.
